This week in 10th Mountain Division & Fort Drum History:
- On January 8, 1945, the 86th Mountain Infantry Regiment entered the frontlines in northern Italy near the village of Bagni di Lucca during World War II.
- On January 9, 1999, the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry deployed to the Jungle Operations Training Center. This deployment marked the last time a US Army unit trained in Panama before the transfer of the Panama Canal Zone to Panama.
- On January 11, 2013, the 1st and 2nd Brigade Combat Teams held a joint deployment ceremony where they cased their colors in preparation for their deployment to Afghanistan.
The units involved in these events were the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry of the 1st Brigade Combat Team and the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, both part of the 10th Mountain Division.
