This week in 10th Mountain Division & Fort Drum History: - On January 8, 1945, the 86th Mountain Infantry Regiment entered the frontlines in northern Italy near the village of Bagni di Lucca during World War II. - On January 9, 1999, the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry deployed to the Jungle Operations Training Center. This deployment marked the last time a US Army unit trained in Panama before the transfer of the Panama Canal Zone to Panama. - On January 11, 2013, the 1st and 2nd Brigade Combat Teams held a joint deployment ceremony where they cased their colors in preparation for their deployment to Afghanistan.
