This year the Fine Arts Department launched a visiting artist series inviting professional artists to share their gifts and work with our community and art students.
Each semester SHS will host one professional artist, curator, musician/performer who will work with our artist students during class time, followed by a lunchtime presentation and Q&A for all members of the community.
Our first visiting artists were Barbara Levine and Paige Ramey, artists and vernacular photography collectors, who have created the Museum of Unknown Photography. Their museum houses a collection of artifacts that reveals a different view of photography and its history; a focus on objects and images that break out of the familiar photographic frame, revealing relationships of image and text, materials and stories: memory sculptures, prison rings, altered images, identification badges, DIY how-to books, comic books, practical household objects, and more.
