The historic Sternwheeler Columbia Gorge broke free of its moorings in the Cascade Locks Marina early Saturday morning as high winds and blizzard conditions hit the Columbia River Gorge. The Port of Cascade Locks reported the sternwheeler drifted about 500 yards east of its dock, coming to a stop when it struck and caused “significant” damage to a footbridge that connects the marina parking lot to Thunder Island and Cascade Locks Marine Park. The vessel also struck and destroyed a fishing platform used by Brigham Fish Market, a seafood market owned by an Indigenous family who has fished the area for generations.
