Back in February, I had a thought to myself “What other sports could I shoot besides football, baseball, and basketball?” I was going through Kansas City teams in my head (college, and professional) and thought about Sporting Kansas City. I took a shot and applied for season credentials. I did not get a response to my request so I started applying, one game at a time. My first game was Kansas City vs. Seattle on March 25th. The Thursday before the match, I got a call from an 816 number. It was a call from Sporting’s communications director, Kurt Austin. He asked me who IONYOU Media was and told me that he would make an exception for us just this once as they do not usually credential small website media outlets. We have shot almost every Sporting home game since then. Next season, I will be moving into a more editorial role, focusing more on being a photo editor, and will only be shooting select games.
