Portland glass artist Kurumi Ishikawa Conley (@stoneriverwalnut) found a different delicate medium during the recent winter storm: frozen noodles. With temperatures in the low teens, Conley was able to bring cooked noodles outside and freeze a fork and chopsticks above them midair. To achieve this, she wrapped soba noodles around each utensil, then set the utensil on top of a mason jar. Within 15 minutes, the noodles had frozen in place, leaving the fork and chopsticks suspended above the plate and bowl. Conley grew up in Japan, where plastic or wax food samples, called shokuhin sampuru, are popular displays at restaurants. “That was in my mind,” she said, as she made her frozen food creations. “I also saw people making frozen ramen noodles on social media and I decided to try!” #frozen #portland #pdxsnow #noodle #weather
