Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19th, 1809. He likely never imagined how the city of Baltimore would embrace his poem "The Raven".
Back in 1996, the new football team in Baltimore needed a name, and after a 24-hour telephone poll, fans decided our new team would be called the "Ravens".
"And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door; And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming, And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor; And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be lifted—nevermore!"
As we celebrate Edgar Allan Poe on a Purple *PLAYOFF* Friday ... we hope the Texans know they are standing in the shadow of a RAVEN leading into Saturday's game.
