Choose your character: Para Alpine! 🎿
It’s World Snow Day, so let’s take a look at a snow sport, Para Alpine Skiing. 🌨️
Sitting. Athletes use a sit-ski to compete. This is a bucket seat 💺 which the athletes will move down the mountain in at full speed in, attached to a single ski beneath them. All athletes will have outriggers for balance on the twists and turns. Featured here is jeroenkampschreur .
Standing. Some athletes may use outriggers or poles or may choose not to at all. The standing category includes ambulant athletes with cerebral palsy and ambulant amputee athletes. Featured here is Adam Hall and annajochemsen.
Vision impaired. Athletes follow a sighted guide down the mountain using signals and communication techniques. Some athletes may have small light perception, so may only be able to see the orange bib of their guide. Some athletes will not see at all so rely on the sound from their guide and their surroundings. Menna Fitzpatrick features in this video.
