The Old Red Mill has seen countless snow days, but each one is unique ☃️
Standing proudly in the village of Jericho for over 170 years, the Old Red Mill is a gorgeous place to visit during winter. This is one of those “blink and you’ll miss it” spots that many people drive by without really noticing. Yesterday I stopped to enjoy the fresh snow and explore Vermont’s living history. You can’t go wrong spending an afternoon here!
Why is the Old Red Mill such an important site?
🌾 Founded as a cabinet shop and starch mill, this building was converted to a grist mill in 1856. The facility served as a custom mill for local farmers, where thousands of bushels of wheat, corn, and flour were processed. This was a crucial business for the farming village.
⭐️ The mill was designated as a National Historic Site in 1972 and has since been owned by the Jericho Historical Society, who founded a free milling museum and constructed a trail network behind the mill. Just follow the river into the woo...
