Mere days prior to the pandemic, I was on assignment for
@slam down in Miami to photograph legend Jesus Shuttlesworth aka
@trayfour . Not one moment of this experience was lost on me. I’ve come a long way in my career, but deep down, in many ways, I am still just a kid from the Lower East Side with some hoop dreams. Allen’s impact on the game and the culture are nothing short of indelible. After I felt confident that I had the shots I needed, I asked if I could take a few more on my film camera and he obliged. I shot this one with my Mamiya RB67 using Kodak Ektar 100 in my attempt to do the vibrant colors some justice. The process was slow. It takes time to get the focus just right. And shooting handheld, I especially needed all the patience from my subject he could offer. Fortunately he was very much a willing participant and I believe it shows in this image. The crazy part is that I almost lost the film at the airport forever. A story for another time. Thank you
