The Tragic Tale of the South Pole Race between Scott and Amundsen. The race between Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen during their South Pole expeditions is a renowned story. However, their journey resulted in tragedy for Scott and triumph for Amundsen. Amundsen's team began their journey on 18th October 1911, while Captain Scott followed three weeks later. On 14th December 1911, Amundsen successfully reached the South Pole, proudly raising the Norwegian flag 33 days before Captain Scott. Despite their efforts, Scott and his team reached the South Pole on 17th January 1912, saddened to discover that Amundsen had already won the race. Stoicism characterised their journey back home. Scott wrote his final diary entry on 29th March 1912, passing away in his tent alongside two of his companions.
