Naoya Inoue, AKA "Monster," has become the first Japanese boxer to receive both the Sugar Ray Robinson Award and The Ring magazine’s “Fighter of the Year.”⁠ ⁠ On Jan. 19, Inoue’s Ohashi Boxing Gym announced that the 30-year-old boxing star had been awarded the Sugar Ray Robinson Award, regarded as the sport’s most prestigious annual honor. Formerly the Edward J. Neil Trophy, the Sugar Ray Robinson Award recognizes the “Fighter of the Year” as chosen by the Boxing Writers Association of America.
