Last week, we had the extraordinary privilege of welcoming the phenomenal Ava DuVernay to WHUT Studios and our campus. Introduced by Dean phyliciarashad, Ava engaged in an enlightening conversation with Dr. Montre Missouri, with students, graduate scholars, and professors in the audience.
Ava spoke about her independent film “Origin,” offering an exclusive glimpse into the inspirations and journey behind the project. The film is based on a book by Isabel Wilkerson, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents. A Howard alumna, Wilkerson is an author and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist.
Thank you, Ava, for sharing your wisdom and passion with the Howard University community! Your personal storytelling and filmmaking experiences provided invaluable nuggets to all those present and your visit has left an indelible mark on us all, inspiring our next generation of storytellers and filmmakers.
