Hear me out for a second…. I cannot help but feel frustrated as parents express to me how overextended their kids are, especially when it comes to sports. At what point do we realize that the 10th extra hour of physical training is only exacerbating the issues that kids face today: - Foreclosed identities - Fragile egos - Obsession with achievement - Fear of failure - Lack of awareness - Crippling self-doubt - Outsourcing of self-worth These kids don’t need to get faster. They need to get more mentally fit. They don’t need to lift more weight. They need to let go…let go of the idea that their self worth is attached to a trophy, college scholarship or professional contract. As leaders, it is time we teach our kids the mental tools and techniques to handle the pressure. Training our brains is not supplemental. It is ESSENTIAL.
