For weeks leading up to Jan. 4, People’s Park activists suspected that campus would yet again attempt to wall off the park. However, concerns about this move were dismissed by campus as speculation, until The Daily Californian published leaked plans on Jan. 2 for a barricade of shipping containers that have since become a reality.
We believe that campus should have at least issued an advance warning to park residents and neighbors that they would be acting Jan. 4. Instead, by acting deceptively, campus set an extremely troubling precedent of asking for forgiveness, not permission.
