The UC Regents deferred their commitment to develop an equitable employment policy for undocumented students after numerous protests and a hunger strike by more than 20 undocumented students. In May 2023, the regents committed to devising such a policy by November in order to remove hiring barriers for undocumented students who don’t have access to DACA or other federal work authorizations. The latest decision by the regents defers the policy another year. In addition to student protesters, several regents expressed strong disagreement with the decision to defer the policy.
