A five-acre landslide in Astoria has threatened the structural integrity of five houses and closed off a steep, hillside street, city officials said.
The slide, which sent mud and debris gushing down 27th Street, began Saturday and is still considered active, Astoria spokesperson Brian McCarthy said in an email.
The city posted “Do Not Occupy” signs on five homes.
“Our primary concern,” McCarthy said, “is for the personal safety of the residents affected by the landslide.”
