Fred Meyer is replacing the neon sign at its oldest operating store in Southwest Portland. Tiffany Sanders, a Fred Meyer spokesperson, said it would be replaced with a new one that “will retain the historic look” but switch to more energy-efficient LED lights. The decision to update the large red sign at the Fred Meyer Burlingame store, located at 7555 S.W. Barbur Blvd., “was made with careful consideration of both its heritage and the need for safety and energy efficiency,” Sanders said.
