Picturing time ⌛ Pictured: A student-curated exhibit "Picturing Time" at the Schick Art Gallery, installed by students in Professor Sweeney's first-year Scribner Seminar last semester. Time is the material of artists working in photography, video, and animation. But what happens when we take it as the subject of these forms as well? Is time moving backwards or forwards? Does it take the shape of a loop or an arrow? What does it mean to stop time? Students in this course considered questions like these, and explored issues with making art using time-based media. The class created digitally manipulated images and animations about future time. They also considered films and novels about time travel and studied how psychologists have understood emotion, perception, and time. To learn more about Scribner Seminars, visit the link in bio.
