OFFICIAL: It was made official on Friday that the Pirates traded OF Jarrod Dyson to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for international slot money. My initial reaction is that, while it’s a smaller trade, I like what GM Ben Cherington did here. Dyson is a pending free agent and has really underperformed while in a Pittsburgh uniform. His bat was really poor, with his defense in center being underwhelming also. I guess the White Sox like his speed and potential with the glove. In return, the international slot money we received can be used to sign international players to deals within the 2019-2020 signing period. It’s definitely better than getting some no-named prospect that would likely never see the field because with the new front office’s emphasis on player development, there’s a chance we could find someone on the market to potentially develop into a major league caliber player.
