Five years ago, Pope Francis made a solemn pilgrimage to Auschwitz to visit the cell of St. Maximilian Kolbe on July 29, 2016, as part of his World Youth Day journey in Poland. In the memorial guest book, @franciscus wrote: "Lord, have mercy on your people! Lord, forgiveness for so much cruelty!" He visited St. Maximilian Kolbe's cell in the concentration and death camp that day. Inside, he paused and prayed in silence. He would later meet with Holocaust survivors.
