DAY 2 on our weeklong journey to Antarctica with CMO mindy.jade.roberts Today she headed to the Emperor Penguin colony at Atka Bay. We are at the very end of the breeding season and this year the babies have grown into their adult feathers earlier than usual which means there are only a few penguins left who haven’t moved off to the sea in order to feed. Her group had never seen Emperors before, so they were happy with seeing any at all! Emperor Penguins are the largest of the penguin species and can grow up to around 1.2 meters tall (4ft). To see the small fluffy chicks and the colony with tens of thousands, the best time is November and December.
