As Oregon’s short legislative session begins, big-ticket items like housing, behavioral health, drug addiction and education are all on the docket. But there’s another bill up for discussion that would impact every person in the state and doesn’t come with a hefty price tag – Senate Bill 1548 would end daylight saving time in the part of the state in the Pacific Time Zone for good.
A similar bill in the Washington state legislature did not move forward this session.
The Oregon legislature passed permanent daylight saving time in 2019, but that effort has stalled because it requires an act of Congress. But, changing to permanent standard time requires no congressional involvement at all and is already the law in both Hawaii and Arizona.
