Of the seven sea turtle species that live in the world’s oceans, four can be found off the Oregon coast. They include the loggerhead, green, leatherback and olive ridley.
These ancient mariners are all endangered and some are in threat of extinction. Threats for all sea turtles include bycatch in fishing gear, climate change, direct harvest of turtles and eggs, disease, loss of nesting and foraging habitats, ocean pollution and vessel strikes.
