Accessing clean water in sub-Saharan Africa is not just a matter of women’s rights; it’s also a family issue that touches every member of the community. When women spend hours fetching water, their entire family is impacted. Children miss out on their education. Husbands struggle to engage in income-generating activities. Grandparents are neglected. Babies get sick, or worse. In fact, contaminated water can make the entire family ill with water-borne disease. It also means they can’t clean themselves, their clothes, their food, or their dishes properly. Families cannot be happy and in harmony without access to clean water. At The Sonder Project, we understand that ensuring access to clean water is about creating a positive ripple effect across families.
