The chances that someone is born on February 29 are one in 1,461 — and while that may seem like a sad statistic, folks like Raenell Dawn, founder of the “Leap Year Babies Limited, The Limited Edition to the Human Race” club wear their birthday like a badge of honor. After all, 2024 is their year. “It’s the date that keeps all the other dates in line with the seasons,” Dawn tells Thrillist. “It’s because of *my* birthday that your birthday happens in the same season every year.”⁠ ⁠ Dawn started the club in 1988 with four people and now has over 12,000 members in 126 countries, and this month they are ready to party.
