“Leading up to the Olympic Trials, I had a great build and trained at a very high level with Reed. That gave me confidence going in that I was capable of finishing top ten. The coaches and I had a great race plan: be patient early in the race, and move up the last half when people started to fade. I came through 24 miles feeling really good— I was in 12th at 25, but my legs were starting to give. I watched the group close hard and all finish in the top 10. I really struggled that last mile, but knew I couldn’t quit on myself. I crossed the line feeling exhausted and disappointed with being so close and not being able to make that goal happen. Luckily, I have my family, teammates and coaches who helped me see this as a great race and a sign of good things to come.
