In 1910 softball was officially introduced to the collegiate level, being one of three sports at that level for women. This came 51 years after baseball was sanctioned at the college level.
The first World Series was played in 1982 in Ohmaha, Nebraska with UCLA coming out on top. UCLA went on to win 11 more championships before 2011. Now, 600 colleges from DI - DIII participate in the World Series, but only 32 are allowed in the tournament each year.
