Mangroves are the salty heroes in the fight against #climatechange 👏 Their roots provide protection from hurricanes and storm surges (keeping coastal areas resilient), and are important nursery areas for fish, crawfish and conch. Plus, mangroves sequester carbon, and in doing so offer an important natural solution to climate change. For #WorldMangroveDay we celebrate these trees and shrubs’ ability to to survive in coastal and saline waters. Mangroves filter about 90% of the salt found in seawater as it enters their roots, and some species can even excrete salt out through glands in their leaves.
