#OnThisDay in 1933, Death Valley National Monument was created to protect it from mining. It wasn't until 1994 that Congress designated Death Valley a national park, and 30 years later, we are so glad they did! At over 3.4 million acres, it is the largest national park in the lower 48 states, as well as the hottest and driest. The park contains an amazing variety of terrain, historic sites, wildlife, and backcountry roads to explore. #DeathValley #NationalPark #NationalMonument #HistoricSites #Wildlife #California #Nevada 📸: NationalParkService Images: Various shots of DeathValleyNPS
