Hippos are one of those animals that you look at and think, wow the biodiversity of the animal kingdom is absolutely wild! Well, maybe that's just us.... But no matter what you think about when you see a hippo, the sad reality is these tiny-eared animals need our help. Hippos are sadly on the path to extinction due to habitat loss, drought, poaching and international demand — especially from the United States — for hippo parts like teeth, skulls, ivory, skin and meat. In Africa the future of hippos is uncertain, but protecting them under the Endangered Species Act can help.
