IMSA ThrowBack to the Future: Paying homage to the Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car is the 2025 RS6 Avant GT.
In it’s time (1989) the Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO car was the most advanced all wheel drive circuit track car in the world. Driven by world class drivers Walter Rohrl, Hans Stuck and Hurley Haywood they were virtually unbeatable. In the 13 Camel GTO events they competed in (they chose not to race in the Daytona 24 or Sebring 12 hour races early in the season) they won 7, finished 2nd 3 times and third once and had two races where mechanical problems prevented them from earning points. By seasons end they were within a few points of the manufacturers title versus Jack Roush’s Fords, but two DNF’s at Del Mar gave the Championship to Ford. Technically the tube frame IMSA style construction, full racing suspension coupled with their 5 cylinder in-line turbo engine and well proven rallying all wheel drive system gave IMSA and competitors fits on the track.
