Hosted by the City of Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, the Yonkers Marathon was founded in 1907 and is the second oldest marathon event in the United States. It predates the New York City Marathon by 70 years.
Participants in this marathon, which will be held Sunday, Sept. 15, are eligible to qualify for the Boston Marathon, the oldest marathon event in the U.S.
“We welcome thousands of runners each year to our great city,” said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. “Our hills may be a challenge, but these athletes prove time and again the course is worth the training and commitment. Come out and see our beautiful City, celebrate our history, and participate in one of the most prominent races in the region.” (Photo: Scottie Mitchell, 24, of Irvington, was the men's winner in the 96th Yonkers Marathon, held Sept. 17, 2023. Mitchell won the marathon with a time of 2:38:47.)
