Two Chicago Red Stars midfielders with fantastic performances for their national teams yesterday in W Gold Cup qualifiers. 🇸🇻🇵🇷 Samantha Fisher made her debut for El Salvador, and started in their 3-1 win over Guatemala— which means they’ve qualified to their first ever major tournament. The star of the game was Brenda Cerén with her hat-trick, but Fisher looked good and showed that she can contribute a lot to La Selecta Femenina. Meanwhile, Jill Aguilera scored the winning goal for Puerto Rico in an upset win over Haiti— who played in last summer’s World Cup. Puerto Rico will make their first major tournament appearance since 1998. They’ve been improving rapidly since recruiting players across the U.S. with Puerto Rican heritage like Aguilera and the keeper Sydney Martínez— who saved a crucial penalty yesterday.
