The band program staged a concert in the MAC Thursday night to showcase the pieces it will take to UIL this year.  The concert band, symphonic band and wind ensemble each performed three pieces, and the wind ensemble performed "Come Sunday" by Omar Thomas, the current assistant professor of composition and jazz studies at UT and also the first Black composer to be awarded the National Bandmasters Association Award. "The pre-UIL concert was very important, as it helped us prepare for what it would be like to perform in front of the judges, but also being able to show our friends and family what we have put so much work into over the past couple of months," freshman trombone player Mateo Rodriguez said.  On March 29 and 30 the band travels to the AISD Performing Arts Center to begin the first round of UIL. Concert band and symphonic band play on the March 29, and wind ensemble plays on March 30.  Caption and photos by Julia Copas. #dayinthelifeatmac #MACband
