A WIN TO BEGIN: The freshman A volleyball team beat Killeen Shoemaker at home on the night of Monday Aug. 7 in straight sets, 25-21, 25-17, to win its opening game of the season.  Freshman Lila Chilton said her first experience playing in her new home gym was rewarding after all the practice she and her teammates put in.  “It was super fun to put what we have been practicing into a game for the first time,” Chilton said. “Working together and winning the game was great.”  Despite the excitement, Chilton knows there are still weaknesses to address and skills to master.  “We definitely struggled with communication,” Chilton said. “But we have already improved.”  All four teams put that early season improvement to the test tonight at Akins.
