After defeating Ann Richards last Tuesday and securing the district championship, the varsity volleyball team traveled to Bastrop this evening to play the Cedar Creek Eagles in the bi-district playoffs.
The Knights (28-17, 15-1), the No. 1 seed from District 24-5A, were the road team against the host Eagles (9-23, 7-7), the No. 4 seed from District 23-5A. The Eagles scored the first few points in the first set and maintained that margin en route to a 25-18 first-set win, much to the delight of the boisterous Cedar Creek student section.
By the second set, however, the Knights had settled in. Although the Eagles led for a majority of the set, the Knights relied on a strong defense to rally from behind to claim the set 25-17 and tied the game at 1.
By the third set, McCallum found its groove, but the Eagles hung in the match. The teams exchanged points early in the set. With the score knotted at 11, the Knights went on 14-4 run to win the set and take a 2-1 advantage in the game.
