Going into halftime on Jan. 2 against the Crockett Cougars, the freshmen McCallum Knights were down by 11 points. The Knights had played good defense throughout the first half, but had little to show for it. Despite the deficit, freshman Nels Pruner said it still was anyone's ball game to win in the second half. "Every game is winnable even [if we are] down by double digits," Pruner said. At the end of the third quarter, the Knights had trimmed the Crockett lead to five points at 35-30. "After we got a feel for our strengths and weaknesses, we played to them," Pruner said. "Defense is what kept us in the game." With 34 seconds left in the game, McCallum was up by one point. A Knight layup sealed the win for McCallum as Mac prevailed, 42-39. Pruner said that this game was a good win for McCallum in part because the team overcame some holiday adversity. "Considering we were missing multiple key players, we were happy with the win," Pruner said. Next up for the freshmen Knight...
