The argument began when the chair umpire ruled Coco’s ball “out” after her opponent, Czech tennis player Karolína Plíšková, had already made contact with the ball which ended up hitting the net. In response, Coco asked the official to speak to a supervisor, a request that was denied with the umpire claiming the supervisors could not be called to discuss questions of fact. The altercation lasted over four minutes and though it didn’t end in her favor, Coco later explained how it “fueled” her to secure the victory.
