When one door closes, another opens—and the doors are now open to a new zookeeper building at the Metro Richmond Zoo! In June 2023, a fire broke out in the workspace, damaging veterinary equipment, destroying food supplies and equipment, and tragically claiming the life of a meerkat. The zoo experienced an outpouring of support from donors, volunteers, and veterinary companies in response to the loss. In mid-December, the new building opened.
