Before moving to Oklahoma, Fritz Kiersch directed studio films like "Tuff Turf" and "The Stranger" and created a legendary horror film franchise based on a Stephen King short story, "Children of the Corn," which spawned seven sequels. Once here, he mentored nascent film professionals on independent thrillers like "The Hunt" and "Surveillance." But, what makes Fritz Kiersch an Oklahoma Film ICON is his role in establishing college programs that have educated most of the film professionals working in Oklahoma today. Kiersch launched Oklahoma's first comprehensive film program at Oklahoma City Community College, giving students the technical and creative skills to get hired in the film industry. Next, he founded the Moving Image Arts program at Oklahoma City University, combining the technical training with a rigorous four-year academic program, creating producers and directors that now lead the majority of local productions.
