The regional public safety partnership is a new coalition in the East Bay formed to decrease crime in the area, but its meetings and information are currently inaccessible to the public. The partnership, which was announced Feb. 14, is not an organization governed by the Brown Act, which guarantees the public’s right to attend and participate in local legislative meetings. UC Berkeley law professor Jonathan Simon stated the coalition’s reason may be to protect discussions of confidential material, legal work product or pure strategy. “Meetings are currently closed to the public in order for the group to be able to discuss and share sensitive information, and there are no minutes,” said assistant to the Berkeley mayor Stefan Elgstrand in an email.
