 Best Friends[Animal Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates the nation's largest sanctuary for homeless animals, providing adoption, spay/neuter, and educational programs. Their mission is to bring about a time when there are 'no more homeless pets.' Their first pet sanctuary was founded in Southern Utah, with the goal of housing unwanted and abandoned pets, while protecting many from the routine practice of minimizing the pet population. After more than 30 years, Best Friends efforts have expanded, inspiring others across the nation to stand up for animals in shelters. When Potter and Preston visited the Best Friends "lifesaving center" in Salt Lake City, they toured the shelter, helped other volunteers feed the animals, and met the many pets that are available for adoption.
