Hocker is known to many in Portland, including for his work for former Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish and former Multnomah County Commissioner Loretta Smith, but not for his work as a trailblazing Black spy from 1957 to 1992, including the successful exfiltration of the KGB agent. But in recent months, Hocker has started to speak publicly about his clandestine first career, which is now the subject of a permanent exhibit at CIA headquarters. The Gresham resident is working on a memoir about his experience. Last week, he flew to Washington, D.C., to record a podcast for the CIA about his time in the agency.
