As we wrap up Black History Month, we had the privilege of sitting down with Tyler Douglas, the fresh force in the Hofstra lineup, to delve into her journey as a young Black athlete. Her narrative is not just one of challenge and resilience, but also of mentorship and hope.   Tyler’s relationship with softball is a testament to her unwavering spirit. “Growing up, I always heard that softball was not a sport for Black women. I never let this bother me and I continued to play the sport that I love,” she recounts with a steadfast tone. This past summer, Tyler stepped into the role of coach and mentor, guiding young Black athletes through similar adversities. Her wisdom to them was clear and compelling: “A lot of the girls [Black] said they were told the same thing.
