A N G E L S (PROLOGUE) A visual essay meant to confront the Eurocentric nature and distortions of modern Christianity and Christian iconography. I often think about how many black and indigenous persons of color’s ties to this religion are rooted in colonialism and assimilation. How under the guise of evangelization many were often forced into a way of life and way of thinking by people unable to see their already existing humanity. I created this project to serve as a revisualization of Christian renaissance art and depict black bodies with the same level of regality, divinity, and grandeur Thank you to everyone who helped me bring this project to life.
