UC Berkeley appointed Tedde Simon as its first tribal liaison and director of tribal relations, a new position within the Chancellor’s Office of Government and Community Relations. The role is an acknowledgment of tribal sovereignty, the government-to-government relationship of the university — as a public educational institution — and sovereign tribal nations, according to a Feb. 23 press release.
