Thea LaFond became Dominica's first global champion in athletics when she won the women's triple jump at the World Athletics Indoor Championships on Sunday. She recorded a jump of 15.01 meters, the best in the world this year, in the second round and subsequently sat out the final three rounds with victory virtually assured, and no one in the field was able to match her mark. "This feels absolutely surreal," LaFond said, per Reuters. "I'm the only athlete here from my country and I have the gold medal. We're just a little island with a population of 70,000 people, so this one is for my people, all of my people." . . . #athletics #worldathletics #domenica (📸 Alex Pantling/Getty Images)
