๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ• Orthodox synagogue in Trnava. Yiddish: ื˜ืึทืจื ืข, Tarne; Hungarian; Nagyszombat; German: Tyrnau. Until 1918 Trnava was part of Austria-Hungary. Between 1918 and 1993 it was part of Czechoslovakia. Since 1993 it has been part of Slovakia. As you can see this synagouge use As a coffe shop. Yes, its weird, but before become coffe shop (2009) it was ruiny. The synagouge was bulit in 1891. Judaism says that a synagogue is a synagogue if it has a Torah. since the owner tried to keep its character and not erase the past as we have seen so many times, I think, even if I drank my coffee with strange feelings, this is a great preservation of our past. Jews arrived into the area in the 11th century. A presence in Trnava is documented from the 14th century. In 1494, 14 Jews were brought to death by burning following a blood libel.
