Sad news to share: Earlier this year, an endangered North Atlantic right whale calf was seen with critical injuries from a vessel strike. NOAAFisheries has confirmed the calf has succumbed to its injuries after the calf's carcass was spotted washed ashore on Georgia's coast. The calf, born to the mother known as "Juno," was first seen on January 3, 2024, with serious injuries to its head, mouth, and lip from a vessel strike. Sadly, vessel strikes are one of two primary threats to the species’ existence, along with accidental entanglements in commercial fishing gear. This dire situation requires urgent action.
