After Samantha Fisher, Chicago Red Stars released another player who played in the W Gold Cup— Jill Aguilera. Aguilera scored the goal that qualified Puerto Rico for the tournament, and played all three games for them. She’s released just a week before the new NWSL season. Just like Fisher, Aguilera missed the large part of Chicago’s pre-season as she was spending time with Puerto Rico. She’s been with the club since 2022 and returned to Chicago after an exciting W Gold Cup run, just to be told she’s no longer needed a week before the season. Aguilera wrote on Instagram that she’s gonna miss the city, her teammates, and the fans following her release. Born in California to a Puerto Rican father, she’s been playing for Puerto Rico since 2022— which was also the year she became a professional player. Sad news.
